80 ACRES OF CAMPING. NON-STOP MUSIC OVER 3 AWESOME DAYS
Boats and Bluegrass is a family friendly festival held on the Mississippi River in Winona, Minnesota. We pride ourselves in providing a fun, safe, and friendly festival environment. If you are looking for a laid back festival with none of the large fest hassles, this is your place. With camping just 50 yards from the festival grounds, it does not get any easier.
We started Boats and Bluegrass in 2005 as a way of promoting our business at the time Red Tail Outfitters. We were a canoe and kayak sales and rental company and were looking for creative ways to market our company. So we decided to try and start a festival that would promote our shop through a family friendly festival. The festival was born and year one had plenty of highlights including the headliners Trampled by Turtles as well as the northern lights! Every year after we have strived to do better than the year before. We don’t want to be a huge festival. We cap our ticket sales at 1500. We feel it is important for a festival to be sustainable. Both environmentally and economically. Is it all bluegrass music? Nope. We try and provide a good mix of music we think you will enjoy.
HAVE A STRESS-FREE FEST WHEN YOU FIGURE OUT THE IN'S & OUT'S
For thousands of years the area around Prairie Island Park has been a gathering ground for all types of creatures. Black Bird Slough, where we take are paddling adventures, was a village for many of the first people to call this area home. We would like to continue this tradition by welcoming you and your family for a weekend of reconnecting, relaxing and a little recreation.

Keep it Green, Keep it Clean
Because of all our great guests the campground is always left as clean as it was before the fest started!! Help us keep this tradition by taking home what brought and leaving your area as clean as you can.
What is the Boats in Boats and Bluegrass for? On Friday and Saturday we will be taking canoe trips out into the backwaters of the Mississippi River. Led by Winona State University Outdoor Education and Recreation Center staff we will explore the wonders around Prairie Island. This area was a gathering place for many of the first people to live in this area and is now home to many creatures large and small. We take many trips during the two days and the paddle is included with a weekend pass. We provide the boats and life jackets are required and provided. We have lots of child life jackets but if you have your own please bring it.
